Bark Craft

樹皮工藝是台灣阿美族的傳統技術之一，住在臺灣的我，有幸能與花蓮樹皮工藝體驗村「玩藝樹」合作，接觸到仍被保留的這項技藝。從樹木被採集，到手工槌打至柔軟，使樹皮纖維延展成為布料的過程，產生的聲響十分迷人，並收錄於這套《樹皮工藝》音效庫中。

從原料採集開始，構樹生長於雜木林中，樹枝斷裂、長長的草被壓倒，連同手鋸的聲音，是生猛的、破壞的聲響。 樹皮被唧唧唧地撥下後，放在不同的平面材質上用鐵鎚敲打。可以感覺到，每一個力道，落在不同厚度的樹皮位置，所產生的不同聲音。有時聲音是沉的，有時聽起來清脆，似乎聽見木頭中的空氣。音調高低、材質的反饋、彈性、吸收、震動的聲音皆不同。如同樂器。 甚至有比鐵鎚更有彈跳力的木槌，導致每一下槌打，發出不只一下的敲擊聲。 最後打開水龍頭，水溫柔的洗淨了樹皮布。

此音效庫收錄了51個音效音檔，包含34個單聲道與17個使用AB錄製的立體聲，規格為96kHz，24 bits。音效總長約31分鐘。除此之外，每個音檔皆附有詳細的metadata。

Bark craft is one of the traditional techniques of the Amis people in Taiwan. Living in Taiwan, I am fortunate to encounter this technique that has been preserved to this day. From the harvesting of trees to the hand-pounding process that softens the bark and stretches its fibers into cloth, the sounds produced throughout are deeply fascinating. These sounds have been carefully recorded and collected in this BARK CRAFT sound library.

Beginning with the gathering of raw materials, the paper mulberry grows in mixed forests. Branches snap, long grasses are pressed down, accompanied by the rasp of a hand saw—sounds that are raw, forceful, and destructive. After the bark is peeled away with a ji-ji-ji sound, it is placed on different surfaces and pounded with a metal hammer. Each strike, landing on bark of varying thickness, produces a distinct sound. Sometimes the tone is deep; at other times it is crisp, as if the air within the wood can be heard. Pitch, material feedback, elasticity, absorption, and vibration all vary—much like a musical instrument. There are even wooden mallets with greater rebound than metal hammers, causing each strike to generate more than one impact sound. Finally, the tap is turned on, and water gently washes the bark cloth clean.

This library includes 51 sound files, consisting of 34 mono recordings and 17 stereo recordings captured in an AB configuration, all recorded at 96 kHz / 24-bit, with a total duration of approximately 31 minutes. In addition, each file is meticulously tagged with detailed Soundminer metadata.

All recordings were captured, edited, and mastered with care and love.
